When you’ve got a new learner in your midst, you find yourself peppered with questions. One way to engage with your child in a meaningful way is with Disney and the many wonderful characters in Mickey Mouse‘s world. Our girls love to watch Mickey and crew in all their adventures, which is why they were immediately in love with the Mickey’s Magical Math World app. As a bonus, I got to experience the fun as well with Disney Imagicademy: Parents, a great community for information, and a great place to find answers to the question, “What can I do today to help my child grow?”
Little Annie will be 4 years old in one month. It’s wondrous to me as her mom to watch her learn something new every single day. Her love of reading as well as counting and more shows me that she’s in love with experiencing the world around her.
One of the best ways to keep her hooked on the process is with apps on the iPad. She can navigate her way around the device faster than I can most days, and she loves the victory of conquering a new game. I love knowing that she’s learning, even when it’s all in fun.
The Disney universe is filled with wonder, too, and there are numerous tools to help parents enrich their children’s lives. A new learning brand they’ve launched recently is Imagicademy, for families with children ages 3-8. Imagicademy is designed to engage and enrich children through the power of imagination and creativity.
Instead of boring memorization and repetition, Disney wants to introduce children to all the beginning subjects (reading, writing, math) through interconnected apps that just build on each other. And of course, it’s all done in a playful way! And even more, parents get to part of the Imagicademy community as well.
One of the first apps through Imagicademy is all about math, from counting and numbering, to sorting and shapes, with Mickey Mouse as host!
Mickey’s Magical Math World
Math is a tough subject for many of us, and it’s never too early to start your child on a path filled with love of learning. One of the best ways is by using characters they love to show them that a topic is fun and not at all scary.
In the Mickey’s Magical Math World app, Mickey Mouse is joined by Minnie Mouse, Daisy and Donald Duck and Goofy on a fun-filled space adventure that includes a playground full of magical experiences.
Our girls decided to try out the app together, since that’s their favorite way to do most anything. Although Annie typically takes the lead in new adventures, Leelou never shies away from a challenge, which is what Mickey’s Magical World showed them.
From the opening segment, they were transfixed. They love Mickey’s Clubhouse series, so they were well acquainted with the characters. They immediately chose to follow Minnie on her adventures, as they counted and played with robots in her Robot Playground. They even took turns counting the little blobs to make them pop, giggling every time.
In addition, there’s Mickey’s Robot Build and dock, where they can race their spaceship after they’ve counted the number of aliens to include. The ability to create their own ship was deemed “cool,” while loading up their taxi and then racing to their destination was a great exercise in identifying numbers.
The girls got to work on early number concepts with Donald’s Alien Number Line, and then had more fun counting to 10 with Daisy’s Sleepwalking Aliens, while knocking out obstacles the aliens found on their way to bed! This section had the added benefit of taking items to the recycling center, and they thought that was fun! Who knew taking out the trash would spark a design to keep learning?
Finally, there’s Goofy and his sorting skills center, as they matched shapes to help individual aliens blast off with their rocket packs. This part of the app was probably Annie and Leelou’s favorite, as they worked not only with colors and shapes, but also got to laugh every time one of the little aliens blasted off. And watching Goofy do a crazy little space dance didn’t hurt!
Disney Imagicademy
The new free app, Disney Imagicademy: Parents was an unexpected bonus for me. The app opens up a great resource full of articles, activities and even recipes to help you find new ways to steer your kids to creative learning.
I loved seeing all the posts, with so many ideas on a range of topics and all from fellow parents! That gave me added confidence in trying out some of the ideas. Plus, there where tips on parenting, and my favorite was the article, “In defense of letting your kids dress themselves.” I’ve said before that Annie is a little fashionista who loves to pick out her own clothes, even if – in my opinion – they don’t match.
It was awesome to see another mom who let her daughter express her fashion sense and flair without being judgmental. I know both Annie and I sometimes get looks about her outfits, but this article reminded me not to worry about it. I need to keep letting her have fun with fashion!

Get It For Yourself!
I would highly recommend joining the Disney Imagicademy community. Not only is it free, but the opportunities will only continue to expand, adding timely information on holidays, school days and so much more.
Imagicademy also serves as a portal into Mickey’s Magical Math World, where you can see your child’s latest creations (purple spaceship!), hand out virtual “high fives” when your child deserves a pat on the back, and you can even share their accomplishments with family and friends.
It’s a very friendly community, where you can celebrate your child’s creativity and curiosity. It’s nice to find other parents working toward the same goal. And it doesn’t end at the apps: there’s free Disney store events, books and magazines, and hands-on learning tools, so you can step away from the devices but keep right on learning!
The Disney Imagicademy apps are available exclusively for iPad and can easily be found in the App Store under Kids, Education and Entertainment categories.
